Description

This exothermic welding system provides a complete range of accessories for creating permanent, low-resistance electrical connections. Installation requires trained personnel and suitable protective equipment, and all instructions supplied with the mould and weld material should be followed closely.

Graphite mould
Designed for repeated use, the graphite mould offers an average of 60-100 connections depending on care and conditions. It should be matched to the specific conductor dimensions being used, kept dry, and clamped securely during preparation to prevent leakage. After each weld, residue should be removed once cooled using the recommended tools and a soft cleaning brush. Moisture, excessive heat and hard objects should be avoided to prevent damage.

Mould handle clamp
Used to handle the mould and hold its halves together, the handle clamp should be selected to match the mould in use. As a general guide, one handle is recommended for every two moulds, though the required size should be confirmed at the time of ordering.

Steel disc
The steel disc retains the weld material in the upper crucible until the reaction allows molten metal to flow into the weld cavity. A new disc of the correct size should be used for each individual weld.

Exothermic weld powder
Formulated for reliable and consistent performance, the weld powder undergoes quality validation at every stage of production. Once accepted, it is packaged in moisture-resistant plastic cartridges with secure closure caps, then boxed together with the required metal discs in moisture-resistant packaging. It is available in a range of standard sizes: 15g, 25g, 45g, 65g, 90g, 115g, 150g, 200g and 250g.

Starting powder
Starting powder is used to initiate the welding reaction. Only the specified material and quantity for the mould and cartridge in use should be used, following the supplied ignition instructions.

Safety gloves
Protective gloves, along with any other equipment specified in the installation instructions, should be worn throughout the process. Gloves should be inspected before each use and replaced if damaged, as their working life depends on condition and environment.

Flint gun
The flint gun ignites the specified starting material. It should be inspected before use, with the ignition procedure supplied with the welding system followed closely.

Cleaning brushes
A soft brush is used to clean the mould cavity without damaging its shape, while a hard brush is reserved for suitable surfaces as directed. Brushes should be kept clean and replaced once worn.

Slag removal tool
This tool removes residue from the mould once the weld has cooled. It should be used carefully to avoid damaging the graphite surface.

File card
A file card is used to clean conductor surfaces before welding takes place. It should be inspected regularly and replaced according to its condition.

Sealing compound
Sealing compound is used to fill specified gaps where conductors pass through the mould, applied only as directed for the selected mould and connection type.

Flame torch
A suitable torch is used to prepare and dry the mould before use, following the supplied instructions. As graphite can absorb moisture, the mould’s condition should be checked beforehand and the specified preparation procedure followed.
